Powering Innovation Through Partnerships

We are excited to welcome Rohan Thomas to Yugabyte as our new VP of Global Partner Sales. This blog (in his own words) details why Rohan chose Yugabyte, and why he is excited to build on our existing successful partnerships to deliver a bright (distributed) future for customers.

Introducing Rohan Thomas

I’m thrilled to join Yugabyte as VP of Global Partner Sales. After an incredible journey at Microsoft, Twilio, AWS, and Clumio, I’m excited to embark on this new chapter with a company that’s truly revolutionizing the database industry.

Why Yugabyte (And Why Now?)

The timing couldn’t be better! As enterprises increasingly move to cloud-native architectures, the need for a scalable, resilient, and high-performance distributed database has never been greater.

Yugabyte is perfectly positioned to meet this demand with YugabyteDB, the innovative open source, PostgreSQL-compatible, distributed SQL database.

Here’s why I believe Yugabyte is poised for explosive growth:

  1. Market Opportunity: The transactional database market is projected to reach $64B by 2025. Yugabyte is at the forefront of this massive opportunity.
  2. Impressive Growth: With close to three million YugabyteDB clusters already created by users it’s clear to see the rapidly growing adoption of Yugabyte’s technology.
  3. Strong Funding: With $188 million in Series C funding and a $1.3 billion valuation, Yugabyte has the resources to fuel its ambitious growth plans.
  4. PostgreSQL Compatibility: As PostgreSQL continues to dominate the database landscape, Yugabyte’s PostgreSQL-compatible API (YSQL) positions it perfectly to capture this market.
  5. Enterprise-Ready: Fortune 100 companies already trust YugabyteDB for their mission-critical applications, showcasing its enterprise-grade capabilities.
  6. Commitment to Open Source: Yugabyte’s commitment to open-source principles fosters innovation and community support. The database recently hit the milestone of 10,000 open source community members!

On a personal note, what drew me to Yugabyte was the incredible leadership, team, and culture. The founders’ vision, built on their experience at Facebook creating systems like Cassandra, is inspiring. I’m excited to work alongside passionate individuals who are dedicated to solving complex distributed systems challenges.

The Power of Commitment and Endurance

As a new triathlete competing in Ironman events, I see many parallels between training for these grueling races and driving growth in the tech industry.

Both require unwavering dedication, strategic planning, and the ability to adapt to challenges. Just as each leg of a triathlon demands different skills and mindsets, navigating the database world requires versatility and perseverance.

I’m excited to bring this commitment and resilience to my role at Yugabyte and help push the boundaries of what’s possible in distributed SQL databases.

If you’re interested in learning more about YugabyteDB, or exploring partnership opportunities, don’t hesitate to reach out. Let’s revolutionize the database world together!
